Gotta Get It: Graphic tees

I know I recently gushed about the Céline tee here, but graphics in general are taking over this season. Cute French phrases and designer logos are popping up all over tees, sweaters, and sweatshirts. These pieces are extremely versatile, and create a chic way to wear an otherwise basic top. Forever 21, asos, and Zoe Karssen, and of course Etsy, are great places to start for the most classic styles. But don’t stop there, you can find them almost anywhere! Banana Republic, J. Crew, and lots of others have some really cute options. Take a look at some of my favorites beyond the Céline tee:

Here’s how I like to style my graphic tees:

You can also create your own! Come up with your own cute or clever phrase (French words are certainly en vogue), or you can always use an existing design (for your own use, not commercial gain!). Check out some of these tutorials to DIY:

I even made my own for my mom and sister (and of course a couple for myself) for Christmas last year!

I simply blew up the photos of the logos on my computer, printed them on thick paper, cut them out with an x acto knife to create a stencil, then stenciled them onto the shirts. I got the tees at Gap Body and H&M – both great places for soft, stretchy, and inexpensive basic tees. I used craft materials from Michaels, and I worked with both fabric paint and fabric markers to see which worked best. I preferred the fabric marker.

Here are some more examples of how to style your graphic tees (click the photos for links to blogs):

One of the best things about graphic tees is that they can be worn year round, day to night. The trend seems to be sticking around for awhile, although getting more sophisticated/edgy.

What to wear with your graphic tee:

- a blazer or leather jacket
- skinny jeans or leather pants
- a glam pencil skirt or mini
- a statement necklace

Here are some more tips for styling graphic tees!
