iPhone 5chic

I just got the new iPhone 5c! I have to say, I love the new camera, iTunes Radio, and dashboard! iOS 7 is awesome, and I upgraded from a 4, so having Siri is an all new magical experience for me. As soon as I got the hang of my new features, I started personalizing my new phone! I ordered the iPhone 5c in white:

I also ordered a custom Barely There case from Case-Mate. I've gotten the same case for my iPhone 4 before as well as the Tortoiseshell case and love the quality and styles. They're also really slim and don't add too much weight to the phone.

www.case-mate.com to order yours!

I created a gold and white chevron print for my new case:
I cannot wait until it comes in a few days!

For my Home Screen, I used one of my favorite prints from MadeByGirl, Jen Ramos.

www.madebygirl.com to purchase prints and check out her blog!

And for my Lock Screen, I used one of my favorite posters:

Ok, gotta go play with my new phone some more and all of these new features. "Siri, find shopping apps."

J. Crew Just Gets Better!

Another J. Crew fall catalog arrived this week, and each one is better than the last! I am seriously considering taking a second job there so I can afford all these embellished sweaters, leather accents, and stunning shoes.

Here's what I am coveting at the moment:
And of course, the jewels!
*all images via J. Crew

I practically drooled on J. Crew's jewelry case the last time I was there. I can't help it, I have a problem! I've already bought all three earrings pictured.

I also think a quick visit to a bead shop could enable me to create some beautiful beaded tops and sweaters of my own! I'm a big fan of DIY.

However, if you'd rather just order from J. Crew:

And be sure to check out their Fall Five.

J. Crew Factory has some cute looks too:

They also have a fall guide on what to wear!

Fall Fashion 101

Which Fall 2013 Trend is Right for You

Fall has almost arrived, and it’s hard to decide which of the season’s hottest styles to embrace and which just aren't worth the investment. Being a Midwestern private schooled fashionista, my look tends to be a blend of different styles, ranging from preppy to edgy. So I don’t think one has to pick just one style and leave the others behind. Just make sure what you’re wearing is reflecting you and not just what Refinery29 told you this week! And don’t try to mix and match too many different styles in one outfit. It’s ok to develop a signature look around multiple styles, but it is hard to pull them all off  in one outfit! (unless you're this girl): All styles into one

This fall we’re seeing preppy prints in dark sophisticated colors, grunge is making a comeback with torn denim, plaid, and leather; and peplums are here to stay. Check out my quiz to see which of the falls hottest fashions most aligns with your own personal style!

How I'm wearing some of Fall 2013's hottest trends:

Today's look
I can't wait to pick up some more sweaters, pants, and boots for Fall. My go-to spots for Fall shopping are: Piperlime: faux leather, statement jewelry, skinny jeans, boots
Gap: skinny jeans & cords, blazers
J. Crew: statement jewelry, outerwear, sweaters, chambray
Nordstrom/ Nordstrom Rack: Party dresses
Tobi: Skater skirts/dresses

I'm definitely very into leather, statement necklaces, and ankle boots and I plan to add to my growing stockpile of those! The embellished sweaters I'm seeing this year are also great paired with everything from a sequined pencil skirt to a pair of torn skinny jeans. I recently ordered two more of the coveted Celine tshirt from Etsy and have decided it will be one of my signature items this season (or maybe forever).

Celine Paris Black and White Crew Neck T-Shirt and Tank Top. Small to X-Large.

Tres Buns! How to get the best ballerina bun.

I love the ballerina bun. It’s my BFF on a bad hair day, and depending on whether it’s neat or messy (and the size and height), it can really make a statement. There are different options for creating the bun, from wrapping your hair around itself to using a sock. Find the best way that works for you, depending on the length and thickness of your hair. I prefer the foam donuts which come in different sizes and colors and are extremely versatile and easy to use. Different bun makers can be picked up very cheaply at H&M, Forever 21, eBay, or even drugstores.

My tips for the perfect bun:
  • 1.       Brush hair out to create volume. My hair is thin and curly so this is a must for me.
  • 2.       Brush hair back into a high pony tail. I often spray a little hair spray around my hair before brushing it back, or use a little water to smooth it down. Secure with an ouchless elastic to prevent tangles!
  • 3.       Use a bun maker if you have to – make sure to match the color of your bun. My hair is ombre, so my donut is a different color than the rest of my hair!
  • 4.       If the bun doesn’t feel secure enough, use a few bobby pins to make it stay. Again, match your hair.
  • 5.       When I’m done, I brush back flyaways with a John Freida flyaway touch up tamer. I love the flyaway tamer and use it all the time. Check it out here
  • 6.       Spritz a little hairspray, and voila!

Here are some more great tips for getting the perfect bun (from Pinterest):

There are lots of different looks one can achieve with the ballerina bun. Here are some examples of different bun styles:

And the Messy Bun:
You can also dress up your bun with accessories! Here are some of my favorite looks from Pinterest for
accessorizing your bun.

I love the statement a big bow makes!

How do you rock your bun? Big and high? Low and messy? Try some different styles!
